Janet Badalamenti

RN , MA , ANPc  
Janet Badalementi, RN, MA, ANPc is a skilled nurse practitioner who has been practicing with us for the past 19 years. Since then, she has performed diagnostic and medicine therapeutic procedures including comprehensive health histories of new patient consultations and follow up visits. Janet has also provided education and counseling to patients undergoing cancer treatment and their families. Janet earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Stony Brook University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Plattsburgh University College. Janet continued to earn her Master’s Degree in Nursing from NYU, where she also served as a Research Assistant. Janet previously worked at St Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center and the Research Foundation at Stony Brook. NYCBS is proud of the wealth and knowledge that Janet has brought to us. Julie Ann Plantamura

RN , MSN , FNPc  
Julie Ann Plantamura, RN, MSN, FNPc, is a Board-certified Nurse Practitioner with New York Cancer and Blood Specialists (formerly NSHOA) in East Setauket, New York. At NYCBS, which she joined in 2001, she provides direct care and treatment to hematology and oncology patients. Ms. Plantamura is an active member of the Oncology Nursing Society, the Nurse Practitioners of New York, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. She is also a sub-investigator for various clinical trials of cancer treatment drugs offered at NYCBS. In addition, Ms. Plantamura is a speaker for Amgen Oncology, Astellas, Sanofi/Genzyme, Clovis, Pfizer, Celgene, and Astra Zeneca. She has participated in numerous Advisory Boards. She has been a member of the ONS Edge Expert Panel and later a board member for her local ONS Chapter in Suffolk County, NY for the past four years. She lectures on therapies for a variety of cancers, including Lung Cancer, Multiple Myeloma, Prostate cancer, Breast cancer, and Colorectal cancer, as well as supportive care therapies. She has been published by the Anemia Management Institute as well as the International Oncology Network. Ms. Plantamura has a BS in biology with a minor in chemistry from the State University of New York at Geneseo College. She went on to earn her BS in nursing at Pace University in Pleasantville, New York, followed by her MS in nursing for the family nurse practitioner at Pace University in New York City, where she graduated with honors. She both worked and trained at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She has also gained clinical experience at Bellevue Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

MaryAnn Fragola

<p>MaryAnn Fragola, DNP, ANPc, ACHPN is a board-certified oncology nurse practitioner. She has been a part of this practice for the past 20 years providing direct patient care to patients and families. She currently serves as Clinical Director of our Palliative Care program</p> <p>She is a graduate of Wilkes University where she completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. Dr. Fragola earned her MSN degree Adult Nurse Practitioner from SUNY Stony Brook University. Dr. Fragola has experience in hematology, oncology, hospice care, and medical-surgical care in-home, outpatient, and in-hospital settings.</p> <p>More recently, she obtained her National board certification in advanced hospice and palliative care, as well as, completed an advanced training certificate in palliative care. Dr. Fragola has been actively involved in the implementation of our current palliative care program. She is a certified medical marijuana prescriber. She serves as an Adjunct Professor and continues to teach students online, as well as, precept/mentor nurse practitioner students and new hires within the practice.</p> <p>As a Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Fragola’s services include, but are not limited to assessing phone and walk-in triage, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting labs and tests, and prescribing treatments and medications. Diana T. Youngs

Diana Youngs, RN, MSN, ANP-C is a skilled nurse practitioner, who earned her degree from Yale University School of Nursing. She has been employed at New York Cancer and Blood Specialists since 2004, providing compassionate care to each patient she sees. Prior to joining our team, Diana worked for several top-tier cancer facilities, including Yale New Haven Hospital. Throughout her career, Diana has pledged her undivided attention and utmost care to each patient. She has supervised and overseen several nurse practitioners and clinical staff. She is experienced and well-versed in malignant and benign cancers. Her exemplary clinical experience is mentioned in several publications and research investigations. Sandra Thomas

Sandra Thomas, NP is a regarded, licensed nurse practitioner. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Stony Brook University in 2006. Over the years, Sandra has gained experience in educating others in nursing, while educating herself. Prior to her career with NYCBS, Sandra worked as a clinical instructor at ESBOCES School of Practical Nursing. Her duties included teaching nursing theory in all areas and conducting the development of school based-curriculum. She also served as an adjunct professor at Suffolk County Community College and an NP at Sleep Solutions. NYCBS is proud to have Sandra part of its outstanding nurse oncology team. Toniann Traschetti

ToniAnn Traschetti, PA is an experienced, board-certified physician assistant who has been with our practice since 2012. ToniAnn’s past experiences has made her well-versed in internal medicine, oncology, and substance abuse. She performed clinical rotations in a multitude of different specialties including orthopedics, emergency medicine, and geriatric care. Prior to starting at our practice, ToniAnn worked as a physician assistant at Nassau University Medical Center and West Midtown Medical Group. She earned her bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University, where she received a scholarship for academic excellence. ToniAnn is currently a member of the New York State Society of Physician Assistants and the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is BCLS, ACLS, and Bioterrorism/HAZMAT/WMD certified. Theresa M. Crafa

RN , MSN , FNPc  
Theresa M Crafa, FNP, BC is an experienced nurse practitioner who started her career with NYCBS in 2009. She is well-versed in oncology and cancer-related illnesses, including reviewing peripheral smears and performing bone marrow procedures. Additionally, she is assigned to perform hospital rounds while maintaining on-call availability. Theresa earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Gannon University. She then attended Saint Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing, where her stellar GPA earned her three Rudin Foundation Scholarships. She was then granted acceptance to the College of Mount Saint Vincent, where she earned her Nurse Practitioner Master’s Degree. She continued to excel in academics being elected as a member of the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. Prior to working with NYCBS, Theresa served as an oncology NP at Saint Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. Additionally, she was also a family NP, treating patients with acute conditions and educating patients about disease prevention. Theresa’s warm personality coupled with her work aptitude makes her a vital part of our team.

Laureen Callahan

Laureen Callahan is a skilled, certified Physician Assistant, with 11 years of oncology experience. Over the years, she has developed the necessary skills and expertise to become an intergral part of our team. She currently works with a team of 50 medical and radiation oncologists and serving as the physician assistant to the CEO. She works with our pain management team and eases our patients’ discomfort. In addition, she is a subclinical investigator in 10 cancer and hematologic clinical trials and research. She has experience in emergency and aesthetic medicine. Laureen earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Hofstra University, majoring in Physician Assistant studies and minoring in Psychology. Additionally, she also completed her PA graduate training at Hofstra. Prior to her career with NYCBS, Laureen worked as the Director of Clinical Operations and Supervising Physician Assistant at Linchitz Medical Wellness, overseeing all chemotherapy administrative operations including pre-surgical and prior authorization clearances. Additionally, Laureen served in the clinical rotation at numerous medical facilities including Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and Nassau University Medical Center. Throughout the years, Laureen has passed her skills and knowledge on to others serving as a preceptor at the prestigious Stony Brook University Physician Assistants program, as well as Hofstra University and Touro College. She is currently certified in chemotherapy and biotherapy and infection control. Laureen is an integral part of our team, as she always strives to provide the highest compassionate cancer care.

Melanie Acierno

Melanie Acierno DNP attended Stony Brook University completing her undergraduate studies in 1999 and her Masters of Science in 2002. In 2008, Dr Acierno completed her doctoral thesis and PhD studies. She has practiced alongside some of the most exceptional Hematologists and Oncologists over the past 20 years. Dr Acierno is part of The American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine as well as The Oncology Nursing Society. Gina Petrella

RN , ANPc , MSN  
Gina Petrella is a skilled nurse practitioner, who earned her MS in Nursing from Stony Brook University in 2015. Prior to working at NYCBS, Gina was a nurse practitioner at Triune Health Care. She was also an RN supervisor at Developmental Disabilities Institute, and worked as an RN in medical oncology, the Emergency department and PACU at Good Samaritan Hospital. Gina is currently BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and chemo certified. NYCBS is pleased to have Gina part of its nursing team, with her talent and expertise.

JoAnne Palladino

RN , OCN , MSN  
JoAnne Palladino, RN, MSN, OCN is a skilled nurse practitioner with over 20 years of nursing experience. She started her career with us in the infusion center over 10 years until she obtained her Nurse Practitioner license in 2015. She has continuously strived to provide exceptional patient care. Ms. Palladino earned her B.S.N. degree from St. Joseph’s College, and her Master’s Degree in Adult Health Nursing from Stony Brook University. She is currently CPR, BLS, and AHA certified. NYCBS is proud to have JoAnne part of our team of oncology nurses.

Jonathan Catrona

MS , RPA-C  
Jonathan Catrona, MS, RPA-C is a skilled physician assistant who graduated from Touro College, obtaining a Master of Science. Overtime, he has gained the skills required to evaluate complex medical problems, while being a compassionate caregiver. In his first months of practice, Jonathan has treated each patient with unmatched compassion and care. Jonathan attributes the empathy he has developed for patients after volunteering for the AmeriCorp program. Prior to joining NYCBS, Jonathan worked in Primary Care, and Orthopedic Surgery. He is an alumni member of the Bonner Service and AmeriCorps programs at Siena College. Through these experiences, Jonathan has grown as a professional and a person. Lisa Rizzuto

Lisa Rizzuto, MS, PA-C is an accomplished physician assistant who believes in providing high-quality patient care. Lisa earned her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Touro College School of Health Sciences. Her education included performing clinical rotations in a multitude of specialties including emergency medicine, surgery, and OB/GYN. Her duties at NYCBS include disease diagnosis and management of both hematologic conditions and malignancies, establishing care plans for survivorship and palliative care, and overseeing treatment care plans for each patient. Prior to her career with NYCBS, Lisa worked as a Radiologic Technologist specializing in computerized tomography and Mammography at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital. Lisa is affiliated with numerous prestigious organizations including the New York State Society of Physician Assistants. She is ACLS, BLS and PALS certified. Blaire Muller

Blaire Muller, PA-C is an NCCPA board-certified physician assistant, who has been practicing since 2016. Since then, she has completed clinical rotations in all fields of patient care including neurology, orthopedics, and emergency medicine. Blaire is experienced in overseeing imaging operations and administering patient medications. Blaire earned her Physician Assistant Master’s Degree from Stony Brook University, attaining a stellar 3.91 GPA. Prior to her career with New York Cancer & Blood Specialists, Blaire worked in Neurology, specializing in sleep disorders, headaches, and nerve pain. Blaire is DEA, BLS, and ACLS certified. She has also received her ASCO oncology Level 1 certificate and her Medical Marijuana DOH certificate. Maria Francis

RN , MSN , FNPc  
Maria Francis, MSN, RN, FNP-BC, is a board-certified nurse practitioner with New York Cancer & Blood Specialists at our Manhattan office. She received her education and training at the University of Miami, and she joined our team in 2019. She has a diverse health care background, with experience in cardiology, ICU, and palliative care. She is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and the Oncology Nursing Society.

Christina Johnson

Christina Johnson, PA-C is a skilled physician assistant, whose goal is to practice in a dynamic and challenging environment to work in a team-based atmosphere. Prior to beginning her career with New York Cancer & Blood Specialists, Christina practiced as a physician assistant at the chemotherapy infusion rooms at both NYU Winthrop and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. At Long Island Jewish Medical Center, Christina served as the Bone Marrow Transplantation Coordinator, and was part of the The Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia Research and Treatment Program headed by Dr Kanti Rai. Chrtistina’s stellar academic credentials allowed her to flourish and begin her career as a physician assistant. She graduated from Stony Brook University’s Physician Assistant program, achieving a 3.8 GPA. Christina is affiliated with the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the New York Society of Physician Assistants, and the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology.

Sundas Syeda

PA-C , MPS  
Sundas Syeda, MPS, PA-C earned her bachelor’s degree from Old Dominion University, and graduating cum laude, majoring in biology. She then went on to pursue her master’s degree from the Eastern Virginia Medical School, graduating in 2017. Sundas has performed clinical rotations in a multitude of specialties and settings, including family medicine, internal medicine, dermatology, emergency medicine, cardiology, and pediatrics. Prior to working for our practice, Sundas was a physician assistant at Patchogue Urgent Care & Primary Care. Sundas is currently certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and BLS. She is also a member of the American Academy of Physican Assistants. Sundas’ interests include traveling, health, and fitness. We are proud to have Sundas aboard our team of skilled physician assistants.

Laura Barnes

Lauren graduated with her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Auburn University in 2008. She then graduated with her Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Lauren worked in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) as a registered nurse and after obtaining her Master’s, she worked at Internal Medicine Associates of Montgomery in Alabama for over five years. She started working with NYCBS in September 2018, and she learned a tremendous amount regarding hematology and oncology, as she continues to expand her knowledge from her collaboration with Dr. Deepali Sharma. Lauren also loves watching college sports, especially cheering on her alma mater, Auburn University.

Katrina Dever

MSN , FNPc  
Katrina Dever, MSN, FNP-C is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Katrina joined the New York Cancer and Blood Specialist’s team in September 2018 located in our Manhattan office. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with her Master's of Science in Nursing in 2017. Katrina first developed her passion for oncology care in Orlando, FL, and she has had the opportunity to enhance this commitment in New York City. She is dedicated to delivering high quality, patient-centered, compassionate care through a multidisciplinary team. Katrina is an active member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Oncology Nursing Society, and the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group.

Brittany Stern

Brittany attended nursing school at Sacred Heart University in CT and graduated in 2013. She just graduated with her Masters as an NP from Stony Brook University, May 2020. Brittany wanted to become an NP to both expand her knowledge and experience in nursing. She has been a nurse for 7 years and has worked in various areas such as the Surgical ICU and the Operating Room, and have worked with NYCBS for 2.5 years as an infusion RN. As an NP, she hopes to continue learning about hematology-oncology and am excited about this new career Port Jefferson Station Medical Oncology

Silvia Diaz

Silvia received her RN from Suffolk community college in 2011 and her BSN from Adelphi University in 2017. Silvia continued her education at Stony Brook University and she received her MSN, AGNP in May 2020. She is bilingual in both Spanish and English, which Is very helpful for the Spanish community. Silvia became an NP because she always enjoyed advocating and caring for others. She has been an RN for nine years and has been working for NYCBS as an infusion nurse for eight years. Throughout her experiences, she has learned how to help and care for others during their difficult times. Silvia will continue to expand her knowledge and care for others.

Michel Schwartz

Michel is a Nurse Practitioner with over 23 years of nursing experience. She earned her BSN from Adelphi University and recently completed her masters as an NP from SUNY Stony Brook University. Michel has worked in various areas such as orthopedic, neuro rehab, and med surgery. She has worked for NYCBS for almost 15 years as an infusion nurse and is certified in oncology nursing. Joanne Maynard

Joanne Maynard DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP, RN is a board-certified Adult Health Nurse Practitioner. Joanne has worked in oncology/hematology since 1994. She graduated from Adelphi University as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a master’s degree in nursing. She obtained a Nurse Practitioner Certificate and then a doctor of nursing practice degree from Stony Brook University. As a clinical nurse specialist at Stony Brook University Hospital, Joanne was instrumental in opening the first medical beds and developing the Oncology Nursing Program, where she trained many registered nurses in oncology nursing and chemotherapy administration. She went on to work as a nurse practitioner in medical oncology in the breast service. Joanne spent five years in private practice, at Eastern Long Island Hematology/Oncology managing the care of many patients with a wide variety of oncology/hematology problems. After, Joanne practiced in the breast center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She spent the next six years at the regional facility in Commack, where she was the triage nurse practitioner responsible for assessing and treating patients with new clinical symptoms in hopes of avoiding emergency room visits. Additionally, Joanne participated in the development of the Phillips Family Cancer Center. After working per diem as a nurse practitioner for New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS) covering weekends, Joanne has now joined full-time in Riverhead and Southampton, where she provides excellent cancer care close to home. Joanne’s responsibilities include the assessment and treatment of medical oncology/hematology patients such as physical exams, ordering and interpreting labs and tests, and prescribing treatments and medication.

Barbara Ferrara

<p>Barbara received her Registered Nurse license in 1999. She has been involved in compassionate treatment and cares for oncology patients for 15 years. She received her Masters of Science Degree in Nursing in Adult Health as a Nurse Practitioner from Stony Brook University. She is a strong advocate for health care screening, preventative care, and patient education.</p>

Anna Silverberg

<p>Anna Silverberg, NP is an experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner with a special interest in the care of oncology patients.</p> <p>Anna obtained an Associates of Science in Nursing in Poland. A little over a decade later, Anna obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Long Island University, C.W. Post. Thereafter, she completed a Master of Science in Adult Health Nursing at SUNY Stony Brook.<p> <p>Prior to joining New York Cancer & Blood Specialists, Anna has been instrumental to the breast surgical team at Ellen Hermanson Breast Center where she provided comprehensive clinical assessment and care to men and women. Additionally, Anna practiced at the Phillips Family Cancer Center, evaluating oncology patients and oversaw radiation oncology patients during their treatments.<p>

Andrea Kalman

<p>Andrea Kalman PA-C, MBA, DFAAPA is a certified Physician Assistant with over 30 years of experience.</p> <p>She received a Surgeon's Assistant Certificate from Weill Medical College of Cornell University in 1982. Thereafter, Andrea obtained a Master of Business Administration with Distinction in Health Services Administration at Hofstra University.</p> <p>Andrea practiced for over twenty years at Queens Hospital Center as a Supervising Physician Assistant before taking on the role of a clinical manager in medical oncology. Before joining New York Cancer & Blood Specialists, Andrea spent five years practicing at Winthrop-University Hospital in Hematology and Medical Oncology.</p> <p>She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, Distinguished Fellow Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology, and Advanced Practitioners in Hematology and Oncology. Additionally, Andrea has written multiple publications and spent time as an Adjunct Lecturer at CUNY Queensborough Community College where she enjoyed educating and advising pre-physician assistant students.</p>
