Dr. Kelly Haviland is a dynamic healthcare leader, educator, and advocate with a deep commitment to advancing care for underserved populations, particularly LGBTQI+ individuals. She is currently the APP Director at New York Cancer and Blood Specialists, overseeing operations in New York City and the Mid-Hudson Valley. In her role, Dr. Haviland leads a team of Advanced Practice Providers and works to enhance patient care through professional development, education, and innovative practice.
Previously, Dr. Haviland served as the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager of Professional Development at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where she directed a wide range of programs aimed at advancing the clinical expertise of APPs. In 2023, she founded the APP Quality Assurance Committee at MSK, focusing on quality assurance initiatives for Advanced Practice Providers. That same year, Dr. Haviland also launched the LGBTQI+ Cancer Care Program at MSK, addressing the unique needs of LGBTQI+ individuals in cancer care.
Dr. Haviland’s research has been instrumental in improving LGBTQI+ cancer care, and she has published extensively on the intersection of cancer treatment and gender identity. She is also a faculty member at Rutgers University, where she teaches courses on LGBTQ health and advocates for inclusivity in healthcare systems. Her work has earned her widespread recognition, including the Mary Pazdur Award from APSHO in 2023 and the National APP of the Year Award in 2024.
As a new member of the Board of Directors at APSHO, Dr. Haviland is committed to advancing the organization’s mission to promote health equity for sexual and gender minorities in healthcare. Her passion for systemic change, patient care improvement, and mentorship continues to drive her work and leadership in the healthcare community.
