Medical Oncology & Hematology

Dr. Dhliwayo is a well-trained, highly skilled Medical Oncologist, Hematologist, and Internist also with expertise in Hospice and Palliative Care.

Dr. Dhliwayo treats a wide range of adult complex oncological diseases, while focusing on breast cancer, lung cancer, melanoma, head and neck cancers, and genitourinary cancers including prostate cancer, bladder cancer and kidney cancers. She also treats benign and malignant hematological disorders including chronic myeloid and lymphoid leukemia, Multiple myeloma, sickle cell anemia and platelet disorders.

Dr. Dhliwayo is passionate about her patients, providing care with empathy and compassion, focusing on evidence-based, individualized medicine, using multi-modal diagnostic and therapeutic approaches, including state-of-the-art gene-based targeted therapies and immunotherapy. Her unique training in both oncology and palliative care allows her to focus not only on treating disease but also on managing symptoms and improving patients' quality of life throughout their treatment journey.

Dr. Dhliwayo earned her medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine & Science and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Chicago Medical School program at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center, followed by a Palliative & Hospice Medicine Fellowship at Rush University/John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County. She completed her Hematology & Oncology fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, where she served as Chief Fellow.

Dr. Dhliwayo has extensive clinical research experience particularly in investigational targeted therapies as well as community-based research; she has published several articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, and presented her clinical insights at several regional and national conferences. She continues to participate in clinical trials conducted by New York Cancer & Blood Specialists to advance innovative therapies in cancer care.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Dhliwayo is passionate about mentoring the next generation of physicians and ensuring that patient care remains at the center of medical practice. She is affiliated with Mt. Sinai Hospital and The Brooklyn Hospital.

Dr. Dhliwayo is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Medical Association (AMA), American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Association of Hospice & Palliative Medicine (AAHPM).
