  • "I came to see Dr. Volterra for extremely low platelets which eventually was resolved with medication. I was having extremely low energy, hair loss, fatigue and a slew of symptoms. He regularly dismissed me and my symptoms. I had to request that my iron be checked including my ferritin and when I did my ferritin was at a 5. He is a blood doctor and yet this went under the radar. When I had previously told him that I cried every day at my job because I could not focus he said “it’s good brain exercise”. When my ferritin results came back he told me to take an oral iron supplement. I stated that I wanted an iron infusion. I eat extremely healthy and totally unprocessed so I know that for some reason my body was not absorbing iron. After the infusion things got better for a moment and then symptoms returned. Every time things would be off in my blood work I was told my blood work was normal. I just had my last visit. Some levels were off indicative of something being wrong with my kidneys. I left a message and was told I’d be called back in an hour. Before end of business day I called back and the person on the phone told me that Dr. Volterra put a note in stating my blood work was normal and he wasn’t going to call me back. I called back and demanded to go through my blood work with a nurse practitioner. She stated I should see an endocrinologist and nephrologist. This only after going back and forth about the what each level meant as I had done my research. But no one was ever going to tell me that until I used up the last vestiges of my energy to argue about it over the phone. I am never going back. If you are chronically ill and have been dismissed and medically gaslit, please do not go here."
