Nurse Practitioner

Joanne Maynard DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP, RN is a board-certified Adult Health Nurse Practitioner. Joanne has worked in oncology/hematology since 1994. She graduated from Adelphi University as a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a master’s degree in nursing. She obtained a Nurse Practitioner Certificate and then a doctor of nursing practice degree from Stony Brook University. As a clinical nurse specialist at Stony Brook University Hospital, Joanne was instrumental in opening the first medical beds and developing the Oncology Nursing Program, where she trained many registered nurses in oncology nursing and chemotherapy administration. She went on to work as a nurse practitioner in medical oncology in the breast service. Joanne spent five years in private practice, at Eastern Long Island Hematology/Oncology managing the care of many patients with a wide variety of oncology/hematology problems. After, Joanne practiced in the breast center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. She spent the next six years at the regional facility in Commack, where she was the triage nurse practitioner responsible for assessing and treating patients with new clinical symptoms in hopes of avoiding emergency room visits. Additionally, Joanne participated in the development of the Phillips Family Cancer Center. After working per diem as a nurse practitioner for New York Cancer & Blood Specialists (NYCBS) covering weekends, Joanne has now joined full-time in Riverhead and Southampton, where she provides excellent cancer care close to home. Joanne’s responsibilities include the assessment and treatment of medical oncology/hematology patients such as physical exams, ordering and interpreting labs and tests, and prescribing treatments and medication.
