Dr. Garry Lachhar

Medical Oncology & Hematology

Garry Lachhar, MD, is a medical hematologist-oncologist on Long Island. Born in Stony Brook and raised in Port Jefferson Station, Dr. Lachhar has a strong love for and affiliation with Long Island. He received his undergraduate degree from Stony Brook University and his medical degree from St. George's University. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Stony Brook University Southampton Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident. He was awarded Overall Resident of the Year as well as Internal Medicine Resident of the Year for the class of 2023. He completed his Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship at Northwell Health, Mather Hospital.

Dr. Lachhar is a member of multiple prestigious medical societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Empire State Hematology and Oncology Society, and the Community Oncology Alliance, and has a strong interest and dedication to clinical research for the advancement of patient care. He was awarded first place at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital's Annual Research Day in 2022 and in 2023 and has presented at multiple national conferences.

Inspired by mentors including Dr. Louis Avvento and Dr. Harry Staszewski, Dr. Lachhar has mentored physicians in training, medical students, and undergraduate students and remains passionate about supporting the next generation of healthcare professionals. He is currently serving as an elected board member on the Stony Brook University Alumni Association Board of Directors and the St. George's University School of Medicine Alumni Board of Trustees.

He has significant clinical interest in gastrointestinal, breast, thoracic, and genitourinary oncology. He is known by his colleagues for his dedication, hard work, and meticulous efforts in patient care while building meaningful relationships with his patients and their families, and he is proud to serve the community that helped shape him.
