Medical Oncology & Hematology

Dr. William LiPera has been a practicing board-certified Hematologist and Oncologist for the past 22 years. Currently, he’s an attending physician at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists and Stony Brook University Hospital, John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, St. Charles Hospital, and St. Catherine’s Hospital where he practices as an Assistant Clinical Professor, actively teaching medical students and residents.

Receiving his medical degree at SUNY Downstate College of Medicine and completing his residency and fellowship at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and at Stony Brook University Hospital, Dr. LiPera’s area of interest and expertise include GI cancers, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, pancreatic cancer, and blood disorders.

Dr. LiPera has published several articles on the treatment of colon and lung cancer. Also, he co-authored “The Encyclopedia of Cancer”, a book geared towards educating patients and their families on the treatment of cancers. Currently, he’s conducting a clinical trial for patients whose cancers are refractory to conventional treatments. In development are two laboratory research studies analyzing new treatments for lymphoma, multiple myeloma and GI cancers. Dr. LiPera is optimistic that the results of this research will lead to new promising clinical trials.

After receiving his B.S. in Biology from Adelphi University, Dr. Lipera went on to get his M.D. from SUNY Downstate University. He did his residency in Medicine at Long Island Jewish Hospital. His post-graduate Fellowships in Hematology-Oncology at SUNY Stony Brook Medical Center.

Dr. Lipera has a faculty appointment of Attending Clinical Instructor with SUNY Stony Brook Medical Center.

Clinical Research – Dr. Lipera is a principal investigator on several clinical studies.
