Dr. Helen Shum is a Board Certified Physician in the areas of Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Oncology.

Dr. Shum earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Brandeis University in Massachusetts while minoring in Anthropology and Biochemistry. After her undergraduate studies, she attended Drexel University College of Medicine in Pennsylvania where she received her Medical Degree. She completed her Internal Medicine internship and residency at Brown University and went on to complete her fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center.

During her training, Dr. Shum has participated in basic science research at Cornell University, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the New York Blood Center. She also co-authored several publications on various topics in clinical oncology. Since completing her training, Dr. Shum has treated patients with a wide variety of hematologic and oncologic disorders in Manhasset, New York. She is thrilled to be returning to Queens to continue to serve her community alongside other medical professionals at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists.

  • "I had an 8:30 appointment today ,this was my second visit, and once again I was greeted warmly by the front desk as soon as I arrived. The staff here is consistently friendly and professional. The facility is very clean, well organized, and equipped with modern, medical technology. It creates a comfortable and reassuring environment as soon as you walk in. After a short wait, I was called in for a blood draw, and shortly after that I was brought into a consultation room. My vitals and usual medication information were taken. I then met with Dr. Shum’s assistant, who went over my results. She was extremely thorough and made sure I understood everything. During my first visit, I met with Dr. Shum herself, and she was just as detailed and attentive. My experience with Dr. Shum and her entire team has been excellent.
