Dr. Helen Shum Awarded Power Women in Business for Queens

On Thursday, September 26, 2019, New York Cancer & Blood Specialists’ Dr. Helen Shum was selected to be honored as part of Schneps Media’s “Power Women of New York” Awards and Networking event. Dr. Shum and 43 other top women professionals from Queens were award winners here.

She was nominated by her colleagues and professional peers, who heralded her leadership and service. New York Cancer & Blood Specialists was a proud sponsor of the event.

Dr. Shum was among other women who have greatly impacted the community. NYCBS would like to congratulate Dr. Shum on her award and on the many accolades she received. Her outstanding record and experience have added to the success of our practice.

From the beginning, Dr. Shum’s career has been one great achievement. In the early days, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Brandeis University in Massachusetts. After her undergraduate studies, she received her medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in Pennsylvania. Dr. Shum then went on to complete her Internal Medicine internship and residency at Brown University, followed by her fellowship training in Hematology and Oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center.

During her training, Dr. Shum was also involved in basic science research at Cornell University, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and the New York Blood Center. In addition, she co-authored numerous clinical oncology papers.

She has since treated patients with a wide variety of hematologic and oncologic disorders in Manhasset, New York. Dr. Shum has returned to Queens to continue to serve her community alongside other medical professionals at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists. Here, she knows patients can get the quality care they deserve.

Dr. Shum pledges to provide the latest technology and treatments available, so patients have the best opportunity to conquer their cancer.
