INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGY & ONCOLOGY

What Is Interventional Radiology?

Interventional radiology is a cutting-edge field of medicine that uses minimally invasive approaches to treat many conditions which otherwise would require more invasive surgery. Interventional Radiologists perform these minimally invasive procedures using image guidance (X-ray, CT, ultrasound, and MRI).

Why Interventional Radiology?

Patients who have interventional radiological procedures do not need a large incision and often do not require general anesthesia. In many cases, these procedures are less risky, and recovery times are shorter than with traditional surgery. Most patients are able to go home within a few hours of their procedure.

Interventional Radiology Procedures

We help to diagnose cancers and other diseases with image-guided needle biopsies. We place ports and catheters in order to allow infusion of chemotherapy and other medications. We treat many types of cancer, primarily through arterial embolization and thermal ablation. For arterial embolization, we inject particles directly into the blood vessels that supply a tumor in order to cut off its blood supply. We also inject chemotherapy or particles that emit radiation directly into the tumors. In thermal ablation, we use imaging to guide a needle to a target tumor and then destroy it with heat. We also perform a variety of non-cancer-related procedures such as kyphoplasty and joint injections for pain, and uterine artery embolization for fibroids.

The Machines

We utilize the Philips Azurion Flex Arm, a state-of-the-art image-guided therapy system equipped with multiple features to help decrease procedure times and improve procedural outcomes. This will be the first such unit installed on all of Long Island.

Why NY Imaging?

In addition to having expertly trained staff and utilizing the latest and greatest in medical technology, our center is dedicated to providing patient-centered care. Our spa-like setting helps to put patients’ minds at ease. We have anesthesiologists available to make procedures as painless as possible, as well as a dedicated recovery room for patients to relax following their procedures. The overall experience is one that we hope feels easier and more pleasant than a hospital visit while at the same time maintaining the highest levels of safety and care.

We maintain strict Covid safety precautions.
